RussellMUCK was formed when Akili, desiring to work on MUF programming with greater permissions than he possessed on the TLKMuck server he had an account on, downloaded and started up a copy of NeonMUCK.
Originally called Akili's MUCK, the growing number of users (primarily Calin and Paw, although others agreed) preferred RussellMUCK, and he fell to peer pressure.
RussellMUCK is a MUCK server, which has been backronymed Multi-User Chat Kingdom. It is based on the MUD server architecture, with the combat systems removed, and is a play on the word 'mud'. It now runs on ProtoMUCK in a Linux operating environment.
The server has historically been by invite only, although guest logins are currently allowed on a trial basis.

It could also be said that RussellMUCK was the impetus behind the creation of SplitReflection, and the primary reason how all of its users have kept in touch, despite not living in the same physical location. In other words, it's all Akili's fault.
