3/22/02 (Historian's note: Akili installed a USB camera and driver onto his laptop. When rebooted, the laptop no longer successfully loaded Windows until the on-board USB port was disabled, by booting into safe mode. [This had the side effect of also killing the sound driver.] Only reinstallation solved the problem. Additionally, the camera never worked properly with the laptop in future tests.)

Akili tries to see if he can make the ghost image fit on either a single CD or on his laptop's second partition.

Calin chuckles. "Trying again with the cameras?"

Calin says, "I happened to read a note in the installation instructions for that camera warning: Do NOT plug in this camera before installing the driver."

Akili rumbles lightly, "I'd like to try, yeah."

Calin asks, "Perhaps we can do it properly this time?

Akili hehs. "But let me guess - they didn't say why not."

Calin says, "Nope."

Calin says, "Not that I'd expect it to be that bad."

Akili nods. "That was pretty catastrophic."

Calin says, "At the worst, I'd expect to have to remove the 'unknown device' and let it reinstall."

Akili rumbles lightly, "I figure that if I can't get GoBack installed just yet, I'll settle for having a hard drive backup to restore from. And this time no camera drivers have been installed, save the TV-Wonder capture card."

Calin nods. "Oh yeah, it also warns: Remove all previously installed camera drivers before installing."

Calin says, "But still doesn't say why."

Akili frowns. "That's irritating. Why do they presume that their driver is 'ready' if it won't play nice with any other installed drivers?"

Calin says, "Don't know."

- Warning: Uninstall any other products before you install this one. We won't tell you why, but we're not responsible for the consequences, up to and including your computer mutating arms and legs and terrorizing Tokyo.

Calin immediately installs everything he can think of prior to installing the program.

Calin says,"This should be good."

- The computer makes a yawning, stretching noise from out of the speakers... then the monitor flexes down and engulfs Calin whole before going on a rampage and swallowing everyone else in the office. It clears out most of the city before being stopped by a group of brave but previously unknown kids who stop it with a device made out of a blender, a car battery, and silly putty. Roll credits.

Calin says, "Wow. You just summed up more movies than I can think of off the top of my head."

Akili laughs. "I guess I critically made my absurdity roll."

Calin says, "Totally."
