The first SplitrefleCON is being held May 26th to 28th at Paw and Pearl's new house in San Jose.

Highlights include:

...and more that I can't think of offhand.

The initial concept for a SplitrefleCON was:

Here's the summary so far:

Here's the conversation that started it.

says Cal, "having a car and drivers license won't change my normal mode of commute to my current job."

says Cal, "but being able to get to GAME with the group..."

Akili grins. "Well, most of that's done online now, but you could certainly participate in separate games. And boffering."

Calin shrugs a bit. "Yeah, we don't really get together for gaming just now."

Calin says, "But yeah, boffer games and other occasional activities could be joined."

Paw purrs, "But you could come to boffering events such as the one I intend to instigate after Pearl and I move."

Akili doesn't think many games are being run at all right now.

says Cal, "but right now I have the schedual hastles Akili used to have."

Calin nods.

Akili asks, "When is that for, Paw?"

Paw purrs, "Yeah... I'm just running the one CQ Aftermath one. I intend to run some more once things are less hectic. Darn heck tics."

Calin says, "Anyway, my advice: if you wait to get a license until you have an immediate reason to travel... you'll miss out on that reason."

Cal would host a boffer event if he could expect takers, and hade the weekend off.

Akili has this idea of boffering on the beach.

Paw raises an eyebrow at Akili, "Well... I was thinking like the weekend after we move."

Akili asks, "Remind me?"

Calin says, "So get the license as soon as you can. It hurts nothing for it to sit unused in your wallet for a while."

Paw purrs, "Which would be the 17th of next month."

Paw purrs, "Sorry, had to look it up myself. =)"

Akili rumbles lightly, "Hm."

Paw purrs, "Probably a shabby time to boffer on the beach. But I am not averse to planning on having another boffering event later."

Paw purrs, "Especially if it involved summer and beach."

Akili rumbles lightly, "Yeah.... that's kind of soon, anyway. Not sure I can manage it that quick."

Paw thinks boffering on the beach might be rather interesting.

Akili agrees. "I've never done it."

Akili rumbles lightly, "Which, to me, is an excellent reason to try it."

Calin has wanted to boffer at the beach/bunker in SF ever since he first went there.

Akili rumbles lightly, "Need a wall? Etch it."

Akili rumbles lightly, "Need props? Driftwood galore."

Calin would worry about the walls getting trampled to invisibility.

says Cal, "wall of sand, high enough to trip on."

Akili rumbles lightly, "Just repair them between matches."

Akili rumbles lightly, "The drawbridge would have to remain being string, most likely."

Akili rumbles lightly, "Er, portcullis. Whichever."

Cal puzzles, "so, where are people living these days, so I can put it on a map?"

Akili rumbles lightly, "Over here, Tucson, AZ."

Calin says, "Riverbank, CA."

Akili rumbles lightly, "Paw and Pearl will be somewhere in San Jose shortly."

Paw purrs, "Mwahaha..."

Akili rumbles lightly, "Shelly's up in Washington for now, but will be moving to CA sometime this year."

"Northern or Southern, do you know?" asks Calin.

Akili rumbles lightly, "I *think* Northern, but I could be wrong."

Akili checks something else. "Hmmm."

Calin says, "She grew up in San Diego, so it could be either."

Akili rumbles lightly, "Mike's over in Irvine, which is about an hour up from San Diego, and is also near beach. And could provide me with free rooming, most likely."

Akili rumbles lightly, "I don't think she's moving back there, at least not yet."

Calin nods.

Akili will have to discuss this plan with him, since he's wanted a visit for a while.

Calin says, "Between us all, that's quite an expanse of earth."

Akili rumbles lightly, "Yeah. And that's only a couple state lines."

Calin says, "3."

Akili grins. "Nafse's in Minnesota, and Azizi's all the way back in Conneticut."

Calin chuckles. "For the sake of extending our reach even further."

Akili corrects, "Connecticut."

says Cal, "Of the regulars, Calin appears most centrally located."

Calin says, "I suppose we're just lucky we're all in the continental US."

Akili grins. "Pretty much."

Paw purrs, "I think last she mentioned it to me, she was considering Bay Areaish"

Calin says, "Yeah, Me, Paw, Pearl, and you, Cal, are all fairly central."

Paw purrs, "Of course, it helps that we all know each other from RL or through a RL connection."

Akili rumbles lightly, "Or having lived together."

Calin nods.

Akili doesn't think he knows where Kibati is located, and has forgotten where StormWulf is. No big losses there.

Calin chuckles.

says Cal, "not likely they'd make a get together."

Paw laughs.

Calin says, "Is Wulf in New Jersey? Seems familiar."

Calin says, "Or maybe one of the Carolinas."

Akili rumbles lightly, "The Jersey-ish area sounds vaguely familiar."

Akili rumbles lightly, "Yeah, an actual gathering would, I think, be limited to those of us with RL connections."

Calin nods, and envisions: SplitrefleCON!

Paw laughs.

Cal puzzles, "come as your character?"

Calin says, "Of course."

Akili grins.

Paw thinks Cal will have to make some kneepads shaped like furry feet.

Calin says, "Boffering, DnD, assorted other games..."

Cal would have a bit of trouble with that, being about twice as tall in RL as IC.

Paw purrs, "And another choose-the-game game tournament."

Paw purrs, "That was way fun."

Calin says, "Not to mention technology and programming discussions..."

Calin says, "Yeah, it was."

Paw purrs, "This time make it not limited to videogames. That'd be pretty cool."

Calin says, "Sweet."

Paw has no idea what game he'd pick.

Akili rumbles lightly, "One you'd be far too good at. ;)"

Calin chooses a 'write a perl script' race.

says Cal, "Acceptable losses."

Akili rumbles lightly, "Of course, I'm one to talk, after Typing of the Dead."

Paw purrs, "I expect AL would probably be a good bet for me. Though it might be a horribly unfair one."

Calin chuckles.

says Cal, "Calin, you and I would be the only credable challengers in a perl coding contest."

Paw purrs, "Calin, you give me a good run for my money, but... I think I have good odds against you."

Calin says, "Of course, Cal. That's why I'd pick it."

Akili laughs.

Calin says, "Yeah, I think so too."

Calin says, "The concept of AL may have been mine, but such games have never been my strong point."

Akili thinks he'll pick the game titled 'Only Akili Wins'.

Paw purrs, "Of course... Eric might throw a monkey into my wrench."

Akili rumbles lightly, "I'm still amazed I beat him at his own game."

says Cal, "ooohhh, cqpp/lua contest, write scripts for monsters fighting each other."

Akili was way out of shape with Popcorn Ken.

Paw purrs, "Sorry Akili, games that the submitter designed and has yet to sell to more than five people are not permitted."

Calin says, "Perhaps we start by having everyone submit a game anonymously. Then everyone votes on them."

Akili laughs. "Darn."

Calin says, "That should get rid of the obvious 'only Calin is good at this' kind of thing."

Cal hasn't played much acceptable losses, but has a head for cutthroat stratagy games of the type.

Akili rumbles lightly, "It doesn't eliminate my own strong point, but I don't know if I'd do that again. I felt kinda bad."

Calin says, "You beat the pants off my step brother."

Akili rumbles lightly, "Not just that, but the last few people elected not to play"

Paw purrs, "I think limiting it to games that are actually on the market for purchase (that people buy) might help."

Akili inserts the missing period.

says Cal, "I slaughtered him."

Paw purrs, "True. Cal might pose a problem for me in AL."

Paw purrs, "But I know I wouldn't be winningest in SFA3, what with Akili, Calin and ERIC to contend with."

Paw purrs, "So that one's right out."

Akili rumbles lightly, "I think the only competitive games on the market that I play are Munchkins (which I do frequently win at, oddly enough), DDR, and Guitar Hero. And Unreal 2004, I suppose, although it's been a while."

says Cal, "Xtux."

Paw purrs, "Oooh, UT2004 would be a fun one to add to the mix. I've got at least 3 computers with it installed."

Akili would have to bring his mouse.

Paw purrs, "Can't say I'd fare too terribly well, but it'd be fun for sure."

Akili was getting pretty vicious.

Paw purrs, "Okay, we totally gotta do this."

Calin adds in Wii Tennis.

Calin says, "Heck yeah we do."

Paw purrs, "Our place in San Jose is gonna have a ton of space. We could totally do it there."

Calin says, "Sweet."

"How long of a party do you think we could manage?" asks Calin.

Calin says, "At least several days would be needed."

Calin says, "To pull in the outlyers, I mean."

Paw purrs, "Think so? We could at least do a full Saturday for sure."

Paw purrs, "Any more than that I'd have to convince Pearl on."

says Cal, "with my current schedual, tuesday..thursday would work best."

Paw purrs, "Ouch."

Calin says, "I'm just saying that one day even would not likely feature Akili or Cal."

says Cal, "which I know is not good for anyone else."

Paw purrs, "Whereas most of us are M-F schedule."

Calin says, "Gah. A one day EVENT."

Akili would have to burn vacation time just to make it down there and back.

Paw purrs, "Right, totally agree with you on that. Maybe do a full 3-day weekend or something."

says Cal, "I'm getting tuesday, wednesday off, and thursday should be workable."

Paw ooohs... Star Wars Battlefront II.

Calin says, "Oh yeah. Totally."

Calin exclaims, "Mario Kart!"

says Cal, "Saturday off would require talking someone into taking my shift."

Calin says, "We downloaded it onto our Wii, and having been having fun with it."

Cal seconds Mario cart.

Paw purrs, "Hey, we could totally hook up a few Xboxes and ..."

Paw purrs, "Play a MASSIVE SWBFII match."

Calin says, "Totally."

Paw purrs, "Seperate the teams to seperate TVs."

Paw purrs, "That'd be pretty awesome."

Calin says, "Heh. Nice."

Paw purrs, "It is SO on."

Calin says, "Of course, we only have 1 Xbox between us."

says Cal, "I'd have to bring my laptop, with wireless card and proper mouse..."

Paw purrs, "Josh."

Calin says, "Though I bet we could get Josh in on it, which would be 2."

Paw purrs, "He's got one."

Paw purrs, "Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I think he has SWBFII as well."

Calin nods.

Paw purrs, "Not sure he has 4 controllers, but I wouldn't be surprised."

Calin says, "And we can aquire more controllers if need be."

Paw nods.

Cal puzzles, "does it accept a standard USB stick?"

Paw purrs, "Need be."

Paw purrs, "Don't think so. Only standard Xbox 'trollers."

says Cal, "Oh right, USB with the funky connector."

Calin says, "I know that my dance pads work as normal usb controllers, and with a pass-through adapter work on the Xbox."

Paw purrs, "We'll have more than a few couches, as well as plenty of floorspace for mattresses."

Calin says, "Which means that I have two usb->Xbox adapters."

Paw purrs, "REALLY. Huh."

Cal has a sleeping bag.

Calin says, "What I don't know is whether the Xbox requires anything special above and beyond what standard usb joysticks have."

Paw purrs, "We'll have to test out that theory sometime."

Calin nods.

says Cal, "well, the 'good' USB joystick I have needs a bit of repair before I go the SplitrefleCON."

"Paw, what kind of vacation do you get with your new job?" asks Calin.

Akili sees that it's another six hours, or double the trip, from Tucson to San Jose.

Akili has dropped a connection.

Calin says, "If we could make the party from tuesday->sunday, or saturday->thursday, then everyone should be able to make it at least part time."

Calin says, "Though at that rate, saturday->the following sunday would make more sense."

Cal considers, "probably want a few of my PVC boffers, leave the bamboo home."

Paw reads up on SWBFII and sees there is downloadable new maps.

Paw purrs, "Dude."

Calin says, "YOu could bring the bamboo, but be prepared for it to be cast down as illegal for general use."

Paw purrs, "I get over 5 hours every two weeks."

says Cal, "full week + a day? what a PARTY!."

says Cal, "right, why I'd leave it at home."

Paw purrs, "Unfortunately with being sick, I've pretty much used it all."

"Do you know if it's possible to hook up SWBFII on the PC to an Xbox game?" asks Calin.

Calin says, "Ah, that's too bad."

Calin says, "Still, if we're talking about sometime in the summer, you could build up some more."

Paw purrs, "I do not know. But I was talking downloadable to the Xbox."

says Cal, "the only bamboo boffer I have without a PVC equivilent is a 4ft. bastard sword."

Calin nods. "I know, but I meant to ask anyway."

Paw purrs, "They added the maps they left out from SWBFI"

Calin says, "Cool."

Paw purrs, "All the Rhen Varr maps... yay"

Paw purrs, "I'm SO going to have to download those."

Shelly is now Active. (ACT)

A motionless calm settles quietly through a gentle mist.

says Cal, "Boffer games, RP tabletop, computer games..."

Calin says, "Not to mention just plain hanging out."

Calin says, "Probably make a trip down to Halfmoon bay, just to get in some beach time."

says Cal, "a solid week of par-tay. going to need vacation to recover from vacation."

Calin chuckles.

Paw hehs.

Calin says, "Well I don't know. I'd expect the last few days to be pretty relaxed."

Cal would have to cook several pounds of lembas for the event.

Calin says, "Just sort of wind down, play through a few single-player video games, etc."

Shelly is planning on moving to the bay area, if she can.
